My missing boss.

I literally have not heard from or seen my boss once today. It is currently 4:54pm. Will today break the record for time at work spent without seeing her?

Daily dose of boss.

[Boss]: I need help.
[Me]: What are you doing?
[Boss]: I'm trying to write a blurb on how health and wellness are important to our brand.
[Me]: Okay, well you could say...
[Boss]: That sounds great! Ya know, I'm just not good at writing blurbs. I'm great at writing bullet points.

Please explain to me how this makes sense to you.

A few minutes ago I received the following email from a coworker. It was addressed to both my boss and I:

Do we have any stats/research on prestige makeup users? I don’t need anything formal – I just want to include an overview paragraph in my proposal.

A few seconds later, my boss sends me this email:

Can you submit a request. It falls under makeup: prestige. Thanks.

I never can understand why bosses do this. To submit this request would take a total of one minute. It literally would take you longer to email someone and tell them to do it than it would to actually complete it yourself. Is this a power thing? Does delgating make them feel more boss-like?

What does it mean when...

...you're having a conversation with your boss, and it goes like this...

[Boss] I'm tired.
[Me] I am too.
[Boss] I only have one thing to do today so I'm holding off...
[Me] Read a magazine!
[Boss] I think that'll just make me more tired. I'm going to lunch in a half hour, I'll just research wedding floral arrangements to pass the time.

When the cat's away, the mice will play.

So my boss took a personal day today. As if the rest of my time at work isn't boring enough, I literally have nothing to do today, and no one to watch over me. I think I see a 2-hour lunch in my future.

Thankfully I have some magazines to keep me company, as well as the book I'm ready for Book Club. I wish I had an interview, though! Today would've been the perfect time to sneak away. Grr.

I wonder when I'll see my boss today...

The eagle has landed. She IMed me on AIM to tell me that she was going out for a bit, "FYI." Love it.

Still have not seen or heard from my boss.

Frustrated.

Why ask me to print something that you can print yourself? Did you lose your ability to walk? It probably took her [aka my boss] longer to tell me which printer to print to than it would've taken her to print the piece of paper herself.

Really? REALLY?

IS SHE SERIOUS?

Here she goes AGAIN... twice in one day, and I'm ready to scream...

Will you please print and bind a copy of the presentation and send to Jason?

This is a joke, right? She's kidding?

I'm sorry, am I your assistant?

The head of our department could technically be considered my "boss boss," but we don't work together often and I don't report to her.

Also keep in mind that there are two sales assistants that work here, whose responsibilities include what I'm about to mention below.

I get to work this morning and find an email from the "boss boss" stating the following:

Can you pls. post this online and also replace the sheets in the conference room with this one?

She emailed both assistants and myself. I'm sorry, but when did I become an assistant? There are two already, and this is NOT in my job description!!!

Who wants to try and guess what time today I'll see or hear from my boss? Her lights are on, so I guess she's here...

... in the afternoon, and I STILL have not seen my boss.

My previous boss was the devil. Or at least, while in that job, I thought she was the devil. She made me cry on a weekly, if not daily, basis. The entire office knew how I suffered. It was bad. Yet, since we've parted ways, we've formed a budding friendship. Like I've said before, while she treated me terribly most of the time, she did have a knack for looking out for me. And now, in my current position, I find myself missing that.

I just re-read what I wrote and I can't believe I'm saying this! But it's true.

My current boss, while nice, is far from what I would call an authoritative figure. She constantly complains about the problems in her life - which, is all well and good, I'm happy to listen - but don't come over to my desk, complain to me for 20 minutes and then walk away without asking me how I'm doing, or what I'm doing this weekend. I have, on more than one occasion, picked up lunch for my boss if I'm going somewhere she likes. And she always, ALWAYS asks for change. That would've never happened at my old job, with my previous boss.

At my current job, I sit in a cube that's somewhat secluded from the rest of the office. It just so happens that the girl who I replaced sat here, so this is where I ended up. For the first few weeks, my boss would come to my desk to say good morning. Then, she stopped. Keep in mind that unless she comes over in the morning, I have no idea she's even here.

It is now 9:55am. She tends to get in around 9. It has been one hour and I still have not seen her. Ridic!
